What is Representation?

Representation is how media texts deal with and present gender, age, ethnicity , national and regional identity, social issues and events to an audience. Media texts have the power to shape an audience's knowledge and understanding about these important topics.

A social group can be specified as Age, Gender, Race or even Class. Each social group has different objectives and interests. Representation of social groups is very important since absence of representation can give any social group a bad reputation.

Social issues are topics or subjects that impact many people. They often reflect current events but also represent longstanding problems or disagreements that are difficult to solve.
